<p>The town Stavanger, center of the Norwegian petroleum industry, is the fourth largest city in Norway. It lies at the entrance to the Gandsfjord, protected from the North Sea, of which the region is very dependent. Today's excursion takes us on a scenic drive from the Stavanger pier to the village of Jørpeland, along the Idsefjord to the Prekestol-chalet where our hike begins. Now we have a hike ahead of us on an uneven path through mountain terrain, dotted with small lakes. This is a very popular area for sport fishers and hunters, ptarmigan is found in abundance here. We reach the "pulpit ", an almost flat plateau 604 m above the Lysefjord deep down below. The view is wide to mountains that fall steeply down to sea level, the fjord and waterfalls. The return goes via the same route back to Prekestol-chalet where we pick up our bus and return to Stavanger via the same route with the underwater tunnel.</p>

From the landing stage in the tiny village of Geiranger the drive goes uphill past the wooden, octagonal Geiranger Church, through the wild Flydal valley where a stop is made on top of an overhanging cliff. From the top of this gorge Flydalsjuvet one can enjoy the spectacular view of the village of Geiranger, the fjord and its surrounding mountains. The drive continues up numerous hairpin bends to Lake Djupvatn and follows the fascinating toll road to the summit of Mount Dalsnibba (1.500 metres.) From here there is an amazing panorama of mountains, waterfalls and lakes, and far below you can see the Geirangerfjord by clear weather.
