A Heartbeat of Jamaica – Discover Falmouth
Journey with us through the oldest town in Jamaica, Falmouth, in the Parish of Trelawny. We will drive by the oldest Anglican Church on the island, the 18th century, St. Peter's Anglican Church, which is closed for refurbishing. Although we are unable to go inside this beautiful building at this time, we will however stop for 15 minutes to take pictures. As the tour continues your tour guide will provide information on the myriad of historical and famous sites including a school for 3- to 6-year-olds, which you will drive by (we may see the children dressed in their uniforms playing outside the class room). The historical lesson continues as we enter the town of Greenwood, where we will visit the establishment of Irie Flava where you will get to touch and feel 18th century cooking implements, utensils and other historical household implements used back in time. You will then indulge in a sumptuous tasting of Jamaica food and desserts, some which you have never heard of before. You will get to taste our National dish of Ackee & Saltfish, Jerk Chicken, Codfish fritters, Bammy, Roast Yellow Yam, Festival, Johnny cake, fruit in season, coconut drops, grater cake blue drawz, Devon House ice cream and rum punch or lemonade. Hear the history and stories of these amazing foods and why we love to eat them. Our resident craft vendor Miss Robbie will demonstrate how to make Jamaican craft items, while you enjoy the melody of our musical genre of local music from Ska to Dancehall. We will teach you how to dance Jamaican style if you are game!
