Destination Highlight: Anaga Mountains and La Laguna

Departing from the port in Santa Cruz de Tenerife towards the Anaga Mountains you will pass by San Andrés and the famous Playa de las Teresitas. Then the serpentine roads leads you first uphill and then downhill to Taganana - a beautiful little village, in the bottom of a deep-carved valley, which maintains the charm of the traditional Canarian rural architecture, and which is one of the oldest villages of Tenerife, very well known by its agriculture on terraces. Here you find the small church of “Las Nieves” with its Flemish triptych and have the opportunity to visit the small square in the village. You will be able to enjoy some typical appetizers in a local restaurant before driving pass by “Pico del Inglés”, from where you have beautiful perspectives of the North and South side of the island and from which Gran Canaria is frequently seen. Population is scarce in this harsh region but the road that runs northwards is a constant vision of stunning views over the island, pushing its way towards the Monte de Las Mercedes, a dense forest of laurel trees and one of the island’s most idyllic spots. Geographically, this is a reminder of the primitive woodlands, which once stretched up and around the Mediterranean seaboard, reaching as far as Asia. On the way back to the ship you will make a short stop in La Laguna that is the second important town of the island with great cultural interest and from there you will reach the harbour.
