Experience the rugged charm of Alaska’s great outdoors two unique ways on a trip that includes a four-mile bicycle ride along Silver Bay and a two-mile, on-foot trek through the wilds of Tongass National Forest. Strap on a helmet and hop on your comfort bicycle for a scenic pedaling adventure along coastal roads with an expert local guide. Your group will set the cycling pace and along the way you’ll enjoy spectacular viewpoints of Silver Bay, a deep water fjord surrounded by towering peaks situated southeast of Sitka. Then leave your bike and head out on foot for a two-mile hike under temperate rainforest canopy through Tongass National Forest, the largest national forest in the United States. Ramble along remote trails, across several low bridges and past a picturesque waterfall — you’ll even stop along the route to enjoy Alaskan panoramas. As you venture deeper into the forest your guide will share about Sitka’s ecosystem, history and indigenous culture, all while identifying endangered flora and pointing out native wildlife the likes of bald eagles, bears, and spawning salmon. A short bike ride back to the coast leads you to a vehicle, which will transport you back to your ship.
