The day begins with a drive through the island’s lush countryside, stop at the Gun Hill Signal Station. What’s more, it offers up magnificent panoramic views of the island. Next, it’s on to St John’s Church, one of Barbados’ best examples of 19th-century Gothic architecture. The widescreen vista of the Atlantic Coast from the churchyard is well worth some of your attention, too. Things kick off at Tropical Gardens, a sprawling park set 800 feet above sea level. It’s home to a stunning range of plants and flowers, shady rock gardens and a spectacular coral grotto.
