From here, you will head out on a scenic drive to the center of Barbados, Harrison's Cave, where you will enter the visitor center and take a special elevator down to the ground level of the cave entrance. As you wait to board the tram, you will have time to enjoy the beautiful setting which holds small little handicraft shops, a small botanical garden area, and an exhibit of indigenous artifacts that have been excavated from various sites around the island. After being met on the pier by our friendly, experienced tour guide, you will board an air-conditioned vehicle for a scenic drive to Parham Harbour, about 15 minutes away. There your awaiting boat will take you on an enjoyable ride through the North Sound mangroves en route to Great Bird Island, one of Antigua’s best snorkeling locations. Great Bird Island is a 20-acre islet lying about three kilometers northeast of Antigua. Visitors regard it as a desert island dream. Named by sailors amazed at the birds living and nesting there, Great Bird Island is a miniature paradise. White-sand beaches at either end of the sandbar are the main attraction. You will receive snorkeling instruction before you put on your mask, fins, and buoyancy vest and snorkel with expert guides in the crystal-clear waters. Or you can simply swim or relax and soak up the sun on the beach. We will hike a hilltop trail for wonderful views of the outlying islands and Antigua. It’s ideal for spotting migrating whales (December to May), sea turtles, and many varieties of birds that nest here year-round. Bring binoculars! While it is best known for its two superb beaches and surrounding coral reefs, this area is also the only place you may see an Antiguan racer in the wild. They are about 20 cm long, non-venomous, and harmless. A stop at a view point is offered on the way to Maho Beach, home to the “infamous” you tube videos of planes landing and taking off above your head. Continuing on to the French side through Terres Basses, or Lowlands, home to some of the more exclusive villas on the island, we will drive through the lovely waterfront town of Marigot, where there are chic boutiques and a local open-air Creole Marketplace along the Blvd. De France. Leaving the town of Marigot and past the lush green valley of Colombier, Mt. Paradise, the highest point on the island, and the quaint little village of Grande Case, we arrive at the famous Orient Bay, a stop will be offered at Wai Plage for the guests to swim and have lunch. Please note that this is the same restaurant as our Orient Beach with Lunch SMZ9 tour. They will have beach chairs, umbrellas and access to the same menu options (chicken/fish/ribs with rice/fries/sweet potato fries and small side salad). On leaving the beach there will be a drive through the French Quarter and the village of Orleans, this was the original settlement on French St. Martin and while it has changed over the years it still retains much of its old atmosphere and character. Then it’s back to Philipsburg and the ship.

This is an exciting and educational tour to the Kalinago/Carib village of Touna Aute. The village is located on the Northeastern side of the island and is bounded by the stunning Pagua River. Touna Aute is surrounded by spectacular mountain gorges; and home of one of the island’s endemic parrots called the Jaco red necked (Amazonia arausiaca). There are also rare fauna and flora. On your arrival to the village, a former Kalinago Chief will welcome you and provide a brief historical overview of the Kalinago People and the community. -The sustainable technique of growing Kalinago indigenous foods and making cassava bread will be discussed. Herbal medicines and their various uses will be discussed. If you are lucky, it is quite possible to see a Jaco parrot, but certainly Hummingbirds, and other species which are very popular in the area. Enjoy some homemade fresh delicacies and drinks at the home of the former Kalinago Chief and explore the beautiful flowers. The option to swim in the crystal-clear river/pools with sounds of cascading water and the chirping of birds is an encounter of being one with nature (weather and time permitting). Visitors should wear proper walking shoes and bring along a towel and swimsuit, because it will be worth it.
