Destination Highlight: Emerald Pool, Trafalgar Falls, and Scenic Drive

Begin your excursion with a drive through the Botanical Gardens, a 40-acre oasis with over 50 types of indigenous plants, imported trees, and the Sisserou Parrot, Dominica's National Bird. View the twisted remains of a large bus crushed beneath a massive Baobab tree, a "signature" left by Hurricane David. Arrive at Trafalgar and follow your guide on a short trek to a viewing platform, to view the side-by-side falls; one a 100-foot fall, the other a 75-foot fall. Be mesmerized, as they cascade down deep gorges. Next, travel to the Emerald Pool, located in the Morne Trois Pitons National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You'll reach the grotto by easy 20-minute hike through overhanging trees and lush vegetation. Enjoy a swim right up to the 40-foot waterfall that appears green in the tree-filtered sunlight. On the return trip, you'll stop for breathtaking views of the Atlantic Coast and Morne Laurent.
