Pedro St. James Great House, Rum Tasting, and Cayman Crystal Caves
Discover Grand Cayman's centuries-old history while touring the Pedro St. James Great House and enjoy rum tasting at the Outpost Bar, before going for an underground walk in the Cayman Crystal Caves. Your 4.5-hour island adventure begins at the doors of Pedro St. James Castle, a National Historic Site and a great house nestled on seven acres of landscaped grounds, this is a living heritage museum that features a 20-minute multi-sensory documentary that brings you into the history of the making of the Cayman Islands. Carefully restored in the 1990s, the island-style architecture and period furniture depict what life was like back in 1780 when slave laborers built this home for a wealthy Englishman. Hear tales of its tumultuous past of fires and hurricanes while walking the gardens along the tropical coastline. At the onsite Thatch & Barrel Bar, you'll enjoy a guided tasting featuring a sampling of locally made Cayman rum and spirits, including premium and reserve selections. Feel free to purchase from a selection of appetizers during your tasting. Then it's time to enter the underground world of the Cayman Crystal Caves, a network of three caverns tucked into thick tropical rainforest. See fossilized shells dating back millions of years, as well as impressive crystal formations. This subterranean space was once a pirate hideout — and its flying bats still appeal to visitors today.
