Your day begins with a scenic drive through the Flemish countryside, passing the picturesque town of Damme. During an enjoyable scenic drive, your driver will bring you to the impressive Castle of Loppem, where you will stop for a bathroombreak and photo possibility. This castle played a prominent role in the political history of Belgium at the end of the First World War. Your next photostop is the breathtaking, Neo-gothic Castle d'Aertrycke, well known for its beautifully manicured garden. Your final photostop is to the Abbey of Zevenkerken. The foundation of the Abbey took place in the early Middle Ages and was, like many, sold and demolished during the French Revolution. Only the Church remained but after a fire, the whole church was destroyed except for the 16th century tower which is still standing after a restoration and fully integrated into the rebuilt church. A decade later, in 1898 Dom Gérard of Caloen started the foundation of the current abbey. The new abbey would send monks to Brazil to revive the Benedicitine way of life over there. Today, about 25 monks are still living here according to the the Benedictine way of life in the service of God and the Church.
