You’ll ascend a rugged mountain where the medieval village of Èze sits on a rocky peak that’s 1,400 feet above the sea. The village encircles the base of the castle with narrow roadways and red-brick centered stone. It includes terrace cafés, restaurants, an ancient fort, and beautiful botanical gardens that line the mountain’s ridge. Rich in history Old Town Monaco, or “the Rock,” lets you step back into the Middle Ages with its fascinating museums that hold items from the First Empire, including the belongings of Napoleon. The open-air museum includes the historic, extravagant and royal Place du Palais, the world famous Oceanographic Museum formerly managed by the legendary Jacques-Yves Cousteau, and a Baroque-styled, 17th-century chapel filled with sacred works of art.
