Historic Zadar Walking Tour

Currency

Discover historical and cultural monuments that are thousands of years old in the ancient town of Zadar. Today, this intriguing city encompasses sophisticated cafes, medieval churches, and Roman ruins. Zadar, one of the oldest towns on Dalmatian coast, was a settlement of the Illyrian tribe of Liburnians during 4th century B.C. A few centuries later, it became the capital of the Byzantine province. Zadar kept its independence for a long time before it was conquered and burned by the Crusaders and Venetians. Your walking tour will take you from the pier to the heart of the town. You’ll see the architecturally influenced of the Croatians and Venetians as you stroll the Old City. You’ll visit its iconic buildings like the pre-Romanesque Church of St. Donatus, which was once known as the Church of the Holy Trinity and features impressive acoustics during musical performances. You’ll also see the Cathedral of Anastasia, the biggest cathedral in Dalmatia. Your tour takes you to the permanent exhibition of gold and silver sacral art, the Sea gate, City Wall, and Square of Five Wells. Once your tour concludes, you’ll spend plenty of time browsing the shops and exploring the city on your own.
