Discover the Old Town of Mazatlan, founded in 1531 by Spanish conquistadors, on a guided walking excursion that takes you through the city's narrow cobblestone streets to view the colorful buildings and preserved colonial architecture with French, German and Italian influences. Begin your stroll at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral, a double-spired church with Gothic, Moorish and Baroque influences, 28 stained glass windows, and image of the Immaculate Conception that floats above the altar. Continue on to the remodeled opera house, Angela Peralta, and hear of its phoenix-like history, and the important role it plays in modern-day Mazatlan culture. Next, walk to the rocky outcropping of Olas Altas the Old Beachfront to watch the clavadista (cliff divers) perform their exciting dives, which must be executed with perfect timing due to the shallow depths of the water. Stop for refreshments of chips and salsa and a cold drink at one of the restaurant bars, then your guide will arrange for complimentary transportation back to your ship.
