Drive through the Turkish countryside to the House of Virgin Mary where the mother of Jesus is said to have spent the last years of her life. Three Roman Catholic popes (Pope Paul VI, Pope John Paul II, and Pope Benedictus the 16th) have visited. Outside is the Fountain of Our Lady where you can collect water from the holy foundation. Then it's off to the Open Air Museum of Ephesus. Pass the Magnesia gate and enter the administrative section. You'll see the Odeon, the Fountain of Trajan, the steam baths of Scholastika, temple of Hadrian and the most famous structure, the Library of Celsus. Next you'll see the Grand Theater, where St. Paul preached. It is one of the largest theaters in antiquity with a capacity of 24,000 seats. Then relax at a five-star hotel over a typical Turkish buffet lunch of cold appetizers and assorted main courses, with tea or coffee. At the conclusion of your lunch, your bus will take you back to Kusadasi, with a refreshment stop and a brief presentation by local carpet makers. Or, if you wish, you may return directly to the ship, which is within walking distance.
