Depart from the pier on a scenic ride to Europe's largest active volcano. While en route, enjoy the delightful countryside of vineyards and orchards, while passing the villages of Santa Venerina and Zafferana and the fertile fields on the side of the mountain. You will see the remnants of the last eruptions in October 2002. You will arrive at Silvestri Craters, almost 6,400 feet above sea level where you will be able to walk along the brim of these craters. After visiting the craters, proceed to Taormina where lunch will be served at a local de luxe restaurant. After lunch, continue with with a short visit of Taormina, well known the world over. The town is perched on a terrace overlooking the sea, has a delightful medieval character, contains lots of interesting shops, and is considered one of the most beautiful spots in Sicily. Your visit includes the Public gardens, where you will admire the remains of the ancient theater with the view of Mt. Etna as a backdrop, a view of Palazzo Corvaja (from the outside only) and ends with a stroll along Corso Umberto, the shopping area of Taormina. After your guided tour is complete, you will have some free time for browsing and shopping. Make sure to take time to explore so you can savor the particular charm and atmosphere of this small medieval town with its palaces, squares, staircases and small side alleys. You will return to the coach in the parking lot by descending a marked path with approximately 50 low and easy steps with handrails for support.
