Destination Highlight: Gatun Lake, Agua Clara Locks, and Embera Village
Your adventure begins by cruising through the rainforest on a 45-minute drive to the Jungle Eco Marina on Gatun Lake. With over 50,000 acres of pristine rainforest, this natural gem hosts an incredible variety of mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians. Arrive at Gatun Lake where you’ll board a lake-boat for the next portion of the excursion—a one-hour cruise where your guide explains the rainforest ecosystem and points out sights of interest. After your guided tour of the lake, you will encounter the Emberá people living in harmony with their natural surroundings in the rainforest. After meeting the Emberá and enjoying their performances, you will have the opportunity to purchase their beautiful handicrafts. Leave the Emberá village and continue to the New Panama Canal Locks observation area. Your guide will explain the engineering feat required to move ships over the Panama Canal–a continental divide that separates two oceans. After witnessing the locks in action and enjoying the sights of the Canal you’ll be transported back to the ship. This tour is provided by an operator that has been third-party certified to meet the Global Sustainable Tourism Council's Criteria for Tour Operators.
