Set amid 2 acres of impeccably groomed land on a cool hillside, Palm Tree Gardens Botanical Garden overlooks the sparkling sea and the stunning southeast coast of Grenada. At the garden, you'll be greeted by a tour guide who will delight you with stories about virtually every plant there and explain how Grenada came to be known as the Isle of Spice. The garden is a treasure trove of tropical plants collected from all over the Caribbean, including more than 25 different species of palms, as well as anthuriums, bromeliads, orchids, and an exotic array of flora, fauna, and fresh fruit trees. Sip fruit juice and feast your eyes upon the torch ginger (etingerara elatior) the feature plant that is said to be exclusive to this garden. But that's not the only element of surprise: Wait until you see the famous upside-down tree. Take a stroll across the lily pond, where you may see a red-footed tortoise. Drink in Mother Nature's glory and fabulous diversity as you gaze at these plants and animals. Your return route takes you through the lovely villages of Red Gate, Westerhall, Calivigny, and Springs before arriving at the port.
