Destination Highlight: Aurland, Laerdal And Borgund Stavechurch
Board your motorcoach and drive along the fjord to the picturesque village of Aurland. Enter the Aurland-Laerdal Tunnel for the 15-mile drive. Completed in 2000, the tunnel burrows directly through the mountain range and is the world's longest road tunnel. The ride takes about 20 minutes, and tunnel designers have added unique elements to relieve monotony and keep drivers awake. There is special lighting to mimic daylight and several "caves" where drivers can rest or make U-turns. Emerge and enjoy a lovely photo stop at the Sjurhaug Waterfall, where salmon often congregate at the base. Continue with a visit to the Borgund Stave Church, built in 1150. View its rustic design and intricate woodcarvings. Continue to Laerdal on Sognefjord for a guided walking tour through its charming collection of 18th- and 19th-century wood houses, shops, and art galleries. On your return, follow a serpentine road that offers dramatic views.
