Enjoy a scenic walk along the coastline towards Ryvarden’s first lighthouse. The coastline of Norway is over 60 miles long and due to the importance of the shipping industry in the region, there have been as many as 212 lighthouses scattered along the coast over the years. These days however, only around 107 remain, with the majority now ‘automatic’. The first lighthouse at Ryvarden was built in 1849, and accommodated 3 families who manned and maintained the building. In 1984 it became ‘automatic’ and is now a cultural museum with a small gallery, conference facilities and café. A leisurely coach ride will take you from the pier to Mølstrevåg, the starting point of your walk. Your guided walk will take you through the ever-changing natural landscape and scenery as you make your way towards the headland. With surroundings featuring weathered heather and rugged rocks, you may even be lucky enough to spot some seals or eagles along the way. Upon arrival at the lighthouse, enjoy some refreshments of coffee, tea and waffles as well as free time to visit the gallery or simply enjoy the views, before walking back to Mølstrevåg for the return journey to your ship.
