This beguiling tour provides an excellent to the medieval city of Visby, a Hanseatic town that is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Walk through "the old harbor" of Almedalen and the Botanical Garden, founded in 1855. Though it's close to the Baltic Sea shoreline, the garden is protected from wind and salt sprays by the city walls. Enter this compact showplace and see fig, mulberry, apple and walnut trees, along with tulip and magnolia trees. Travel by coach to Galgberget, Gallows Hill, and hear the horrific history of the site.Also called Galgberget, Gallows Hill was constructed in the 13th century and is widely considered Europe's best-preserved medieval gallows. Drive along the wall to the Dalman’s Gate where you leave your coach. Pass through the gate and continue your walk through the beautiful medieval old streets, passing small, charming houses, many covered in roses, and visit the Sankta Maria Cathedral, both a culture treasure and a church, built in the late 12th century. Return by way of Almedalen to the port.
