North Cape is situated on the island of Magerøy, which derives from the Sami word Makkaravjo, meaning steep, barren coast. The coaches drive through the wild and desolate terrain. With any luck we might catch a glimpse of some of the approx. 4.000 reindeer that graze on the island during the summer months. At 71°10'21'' northern latitude we reach North Cape, where the cliff raises 307 metres above the Arctic Ocean. Here, on top of the cliff, we find the North Cape Hall www.visitnorthcape.no Arriving at the plateau we are free to roam the premises. Some of the attractions we can mention are the new cafeteria, souvenir-shops, post office and the small ecumenical chapel. There is also a film performance in the cinema, repeated throughout the day showing the region through summer and winter. Weather permitting it is a must to watch the panorama, i.e. the Arctic Ocean, from the Globe situated near the edge of the cliff and also the "stone-wheels" set up on the plateau showing copies of drawings made by children from all corners of the world with the motto: "Peace and Friendship" are worth looking at. The return is made via the same route back to Honningsvåg.
