This full eight-hour day of enchantment leaves no stone unturned! Enjoy a 45-minute ferry ride across sparkling turquoise waters to Playa del Carmen, on Mexico’s mainland. Then you’ll hop on an air-conditioned bus Southbound for approximately 40 minutes until you reach the majestic ancient Mayan ruins of Tulum. Perched atop seaside limestone cliffs, with many important temples, stucco paintings, and shrines used for ceremonial rituals, your guide will share with you their vast knowledge of this incredible archaeological site over 700 years old. For more than two hours you’ll have the honor of exploring the only Mayan ruins with beachfront property, and one of the few that document the arrival of the Spaniards. From the most prominent building, El Castillo, you will have panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea and perhaps imagine how alien their arrival must have been perceived. Returning to Playa del Carmen you will be brought back to the present day. You’ll have some free time to stroll the world famous 5th Avenue. Paralleling the waterfront, this nearly two and a half mile long pedestrian walkway is flanked by international restaurants, brand name stores, high-end boutiques as well as local artisans and vendors. Take it all in before boarding the ferry back to Cozumel and your ship.
