Awaken your senses to the fresh island-grown products found in Kona's tropical agricultural environment. On the slopes of Hualālai, the rich volcanic soil nourishes the crops used to yield vibrant products that can only be described as uniquely Hawaiian. On this tour, you will visit unique island farms and learn how they transform their crops from field to finished product. At Puna Chocolate you will enter one of the United States’ few cocoa growing farms where 1,000 trees are planted above a commanding ocean view. As cacao is new to Hawaii, we start our agricultural journey with our Polynesian “canoe plant” garden and explore plants that came before western farming. You then descend through our 500 white pineapple patch through rare coffee hybrids before reaching our cocoa orchard to learn about how this plant produces the cocoa beans we use to make chocolate! You will crack a few “pods” together and try fresh cocoa fruit. We will then retreat to our chocolate tasting tent to try various chocolates from farms we own across the island and experience how each region’s soil and climate affect the flavor profile. If time permits, we will visit our spice garden where you can smell and taste fresh cinnamon, curry, cloves, nutmeg, and more tropical plants. Our café offers full chocolate and farm gifts as well as the best mocha and chocolate beverages on the planet! At Kona Joe Coffee Farm, you will learn how their 100% Kona coffee is grown and processed as well as visit the on-site roasting facility. Before leaving this spot, you’ll also enjoy the magnificent scenery from the ocean-view lanai, relax with a cup of gourmet Kona coffee and savor a special coffee bean treat. You will also receive a Kona Joe coffee mug as a souvenir. End your journey with a drive along the scenic waterfront of Ali'i Drive in the historic seaside town of Kailua-Kona.
