Take a short ride through Mount Maunganui Township as you head into the open countryside towards "Hells Gate ", appropriately named by the famous playwright George Bernard Shaw. Take a self-guided walk through the geothermal park. You'll see the bubbling mud pools and hissing steam vents. You'll see why Sodom & Gomorrah and the Devil's Bath are so well named. As you make your way around the park you'll understand why the Maori considered this natural wonder to be alive.The unique geothermal muds and waters of Rotorua are renown for their curative and invigorating properties - and this is particularly so at "Hells Gate. For more than 700 years "Hells Gate " or Tikitere as it is known to the Maori has been a special place of wellness. Take a dip into the mud bath for 20 minutes and cover yourself with the mud. After a shower, continue to bath in the hot spa pools. Changing rooms and showers are available after your soak, before traveling back to the ship. Notes: towels will be provided. Bathing suits can be hired. Do not wear jewelry as it can tarnish in the mineral waters. Minimum age for the mud bath is 3 years.
