Drive northbound towards the Faarumai Valley at Tiarei. A short walk will lead you to Vaimahutu Falls, where you can enjoy the shade of the trees and the refreshing ambiance of the river. This is the place where the legend of the three waterfalls recounts the encounter between the young Faùai and Ivi. Next enjoy a visit to Venus Point, the site of James Cook’s historic observations of the 1769 transit of Venus. Tahiti had only recently been “discovered” by Englishman Samuel Wallis in 1767, and his visit was soon followed by glowing accounts from the French explorer Louis Antoine de Bougainville, who poetically described the island’s beauty and the natural charms of its people. The site is also home to a picturesque Victorian-era lighthouse and a monument to the crew of the Bounty. Your last stop will be at the Tahara'a View Point for a great photo opportunity over Papeete and Moorea.
