Small Group: High Country Off-Road Explorer and Jet Boat Adventure

This off the beaten path full-day tour is an active adventure exploring one of New Zealand's least-visited areas: the rugged hill country of the Southern Alps. It's a stunning region that stands in dramatic contrast to the flat Canterbury Plains that surround Christchurch. Imagine taking in the sights via an off road tour Vehicle and then transferring to a high-speed jet boat for a thrilling cruise into the spectacular Waimakariri River Gorge! From the port of Lyttelton, we journey across the fertile Canterbury Plains, before making our way to Springfield and then down onto Springfield Adventure Park on the banks of the spectacular Waimakariri River Gorge. After arriving we head off for our first adventure, an off-road Tour for a scenic and exciting off-road tour over Cora Lyn and Mt Torlesse high country Stations. On your tour you will get to experience the thrill and excitement of off-roading. Both of these private High Country Stations have no public access. Mt Torlesse Station is a 10,000 acre working sheep and cattle station that has been in the same family for 4 generations. While on tour there will be numerous stops for photos and a chance to appreciate the spectacular views of river gorges, rugged high country and the jagged peaks of the Southern Alps as well as views across the Canterbury Plains. Learn about the colourful history, the geology and day to day farming of these impressive stations. After enjoying your exciting off road adventure you will return to Springfield Adventure Park where you will enjoy a delicious buffet lunch. After enjoying a relaxing lunch you will then board the famous Hamilton jet boat, which will take you on a thrilling and spectacular scenic ride deep into the heart of the Waimakariri River Gorge, skimming over water at times only centimetres deep. On the jet boat you will get to experience the famous Hamilton jet spin and your driver will stop numerous times to allow you to take photos and talk about the Gorge. After your exciting jetboat experience you will board your motorcoach, for a relaxing return journey along the Great Alpine Highway and back across the Canterbury Plains to Christchurch where you will get to enjoy a short city tour of Christchurch before returning to Lyttelton.
