Your first stop is Kushida Shrine, built when the city was a nexus for trade and diplomatic travel between Japan, China, and Korea. It has been popular with local people since it was built in 757 and was rebuilt in 1587. It is well preserved and meticulously cared for, its decorations and furnishings offered up as worship for the god staying there. Then it's back to the future with a tour of Fukuoka Tower, the highest seashore tower in all of Japan at 768 feet. The tower, loaded with high-tech equipment, is a salute to modern-day Japan. From there, marvel at 360-degree views of beautiful Hakata Bay and Fukuoka city and mountains.
