Travel along Taiwan's Northern coast to experience the beauty of nature and the traditions of a bygone era on a half-day, guided excursion that takes you first to Yeliu. This mile-long cape and geopark, formed by the Datum Mountains that reach into the sea, is famous for its bizarre and fascinating rock formations created by sea erosion over eons. Be on the lookout for Candle, Fairy's Shoe, Bean Curd and especially, the Queen's Head. On leaving Yeliu, you'll head inland a bit for a scenic drive to Chiufen, a seaside mountain village that was once considered the gold city of Asia, due to its active gold mining. Climb the steep cobblestone steps leading to Old Street, and be charmed by the red lanterns that adorn the close-set buildings; sample local delicacies from small food stands that line the street; shop for souvenirs and local handicrafts. Before boarding your coach for the return trip, enjoy tea like a native at one of the village's several teahouses; many are multistoried and have beautiful views of the Keelung outer sea.
