From the pier, depart by motor coach along the eastern promenade, an expansive ocean side park peppered with large homes overlooking the water. Turning westward discover the vibrant downtown and the handsomely restored 19th century buildings of the "Old Port" housing colorful cafes, shops, bars and restaurants. See the Portland Observatory, America's last standing maritime signal tower and Victoria Mansion, landmark example of American residential architecture from 1860. Also pass the Portland Museum of Art, and the Wadsworth-Longfellow House, once home to four generations of one remarkable family that made significant contributions to the political, literary, and cultural life of New England and the United States. Traverse the western promenade before heading across the bridge to Bug Light for a great view of Portland and your ship before returning to the pier.
