Visit the Laura Herb and Spice Garden filled with trees, plants and green grassy fields, treat your taste buds to a range of herbs and spices in over 6.5 acres(2.6ha) of garden. Learn about spices, their uses, what they look like in their natural state and about old remedies with your guide. Find cocoa, cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, turmeric and Tonka beans. Complete your tour by heading to the gift shop, where you can purchase herbs and spices to take home and use in your own cooking. Continue to the central part of the island to Grand Etang where you can view the Grand Etang Lake. This cobalt blue lake lies in the crater of an extinct volcano, a breathtaking 1,900 feet above sea level. Enjoy a refreshing drink at the Visitor Center. The descent brings you past magnificent hanging carpets of green mountain fern, and through the quaint village of Vendome to Annandale. Disembark the coach for a short, walk to a green paradise of rushing water and hanging ferns. You'll see some of Grenada's 450 species of flowering and medicinal plants here. Your first stop will be Claremont Farms, a private agricultural estate dedicated to growing the rare Antiguan Black Pineapple, prized for its taste and sweetness. Your journey will then continue along Fig Tree Drive, through Antigua’s rainforest and on to the stunning sugar mill with a viewing platform dating back to the 1600s, nestled within the hills at the Mount Tabor Retreat. Here you will hear the history of the old slave area, see the remains of an old rum distillery, see where slaves would give birth to their children and take in the fantastic views over the rainforest and south coast vistas. Lastly, Weatherills Estate. Here, set in a historic, restored 17th-century colonial mansion is Weatherills Estate House, situated between Marble Hill and Blue Waters. The carefully restored estate house, one of Antigua’s most productive sugar mills, has been given new life as an elegant boutique hotel and restaurant. The property and tour here offer a trip back into history; there’s even a functioning windmill on the property which can be climbed up to take in the fabulous view over Antigua. Your return drive will pass by Antiguan countryside, local village life, and your awaiting ship at the pier.
