Journey to the Gwaneumsa Temple, a spacious site that contains many sacred Buddhist images and shrines. While no one knows exactly, many believe the temple was first built during the reign of the Tamra Dynasty, which held sway from 476 BC to 1005 AD. The first religious buildings and icons were destroyed when Confucianism was declared the national religion of Korea, but rebuilt in 1912 and renovated in 1964. The temple consists of the main shrine, Myeongbujeong Hall, a bell tower, Sanshingak Pavilion, and Bulimun Gate. Next it's off to The Jeju Mok Office, a cluster of low pagoda-like buildings that probably were government offices. Relatively new is the next stop on the tour, Jeju Dongmun Traditional Market, which has its roots in 1945. This art and cultural tour will visit the Nagashima Museum, a private museum housing the largest collection of Satsuma-yaki pottery in Kagoshima.Satsuma-yaki, famous not only in Japan but throughout the world, was first made by Korean potters who were brought to Japan as prisoners of war in the early 17th century. The exhibition rooms in which the pottery is displayed are divided into two sections: white Satsuma and black Satsuma. Produced during the golden age of Satsuma ware, white Satsuma was attractive for its beautiful painting and gorgeous workmanship, and many were sent to European collectors for export. Also, survey the museum’s other collections, including the paintings of local artists and others. For another look into the local culture, enjoy a visit to Amamino-Sato, a park complex featuring informative displays on the area’s natural environment and history. An exhibition hall presents life-size depictions of the natural wonders of the Amami region. And the guests have an opportunity to learn "Kusakizome" plant dyeing. Making original yellow handkerchiefs using the dye solution of "Fukugi," a tree that lives near the coast of a southern island. Then reboard your coach to back to the pier.
